Platinum Equity to acquire Italian manufacturer Trime

Deal expected to close in early 2027 as 21 Invest exits the Italian equipment manufacturer

Platinum Equity has agreed to acquire a majority stake in Italian equipment manufacturer Trime from private equity firm 21 Invest, with the company’s founder and management team reinvesting alongside the buyer.

The deal, announced on 19 October, is expected to complete in early 2027, subject to regulatory approvals, while financial terms have not been disclosed.

Trime manufactures mobile lighting towers, generators and security equipment for construction, infrastructure, mining and events. The group operates four manufacturing facilities in Italy and has commercial operations in the UK, the Netherlands, the US and Australia, serving customers in more than 30 countries.

Platinum Equity plans to support Trime’s next phase of international expansion, with a particular focus on the US market. The strategy includes investment in production capacity, sales coverage, warehousing, spare-parts availability and customer support, alongside product development and potential acquisitions.

The acquisition marks an exit for 21 Invest, which acquired Trime in 2022. During its ownership, the company expanded its international presence and developed its range of hybrid, battery-powered and solar-powered equipment.

Platinum Equity has previous experience in equipment manufacturing and rental businesses, including investments in Maxim Crane Works and Nesco. The firm said its industry relationships and operational expertise would help Trime expand its customer base and increase its presence across North America.

Louis Samson, co-president of Platinum Equity, said: “We have been investing in equipment manufacturers and rental businesses for nearly two decades, and Trime is a company we’ve admired for a long time.

“It’s a resilient, cash-generative business serving markets that are growing and benefiting from essential infrastructure spending. We also see additional potential upside from continued investment in data centers and power generation both in the United States and globally. We believe our operational resources, industry relationships and experience scaling businesses in the sector can help accelerate the company’s next phase of growth.”
